Vision Committee Report
Who We Are

Established in 1990 and incorporated as a nonprofit public benefit corporation in April, 1996, the CVPA grew out of a desire by concerned property owners to maintain the serenity and rural beauty of the area, especially when threatened by encroaching commercial entities.

Unquestionably, the appeal of the area is, to a great extent, the flavor of the natural surroundings as exemplified by the Cummings and Brite Valleys. Thus a strong desire to maintain that appeal was inherent in the decision to form the association.

With respect to these valleys, the Kern County General Plan is designed to preserve the rural character and farmlands, and the CVPA believes the plan is appropriate for the area and should not be changed. We support individual property rights that are lawful and consistent with the General Plan, but oppose actions that violate or attempt to amend the Plan to allow inappropriate development that would impact us all in a negative manner.

We believe in open meetings as well as open spaces, and everyone is welcome to attend. We try to present meeting programs of educational interest to area residents and publish a newsletter at least 4 times each year to keep all members abreast of our activities. A biennial spring bus tour of the valleys has been an important abecedarian experience for newcomers and oldtimers as well, accentuating the appeal we are trying to protect. The tour has become so popular it has been necessary to schedule it the last three years in a row. Another popular event is our annual deep pit barbeque presented in the fall.

If you like what you see here and are of like mind regarding development, please join this association of volunteers. We need your money (only $12 per year per family) and are always seeking willing and able hands. Our voice grows stronger with each new member.

CVPA has succeeded in establishing a new, separate organization that is qualified to hold conservation easements from land owners who wish to preserve the natural condition of their property while benefitting from the  income tax benefits afforded by a conservation easement. The Tehachapi Cummings Land Trust (TCLT) will serve the entire Tehachapi area. During this early phase some CVPA Board members are serving as voting directors of TCLT, but with time the plan is to broaden the Executive Board beyond CVPA members, and to have a number of Advisory Committee Members. The following have already agreed to be Advisory Committee Members: Supervisor, Don Maben; Mayor, Ed Grimes; retired General Manager of TCCWD, Bob Jasper; Oak Creek Energy Executive Vice President, Ed Duggan; and Indian Hill Ranch owner, Rob Schultz.
